Heidi Klum was born in Bergisch Gladbach, a small city near Cologne, Germany, in 1973. Her career as a top fashion model and swimsuit star began almost by accident when, on a lark, she submitted photos to a model competition hosted by Petra, a young woman's magazine. Klum won the competition, and signed with Metropolitan, the German modeling agency.

After modeling in Europe for a few years to great success, she went to the United States to pursue modeling there, and met with more success, culminating in her relationship with Victoria's Secret. This brought her to the pinnacle of modeling and, in 1998, the coveted cover of Sports Illustrated's annual Swimsuit Issue, cementing her status as one of the world's top models. Along with that came lucrative marketing opportunities, including her own signature lines of sandals, jewelry, and perfume.

Like many other models, most notably Famke Janssen, Klum then sought to parlay her fame into a career in Hollywood. She has appeared frequently on TV in the US and in Germany, and has had several small parts in movies, including a cameo playing Swiss bombshell Ursula Andress in the Peter Sellers biopic The Life and Death of Peter Sellers (2004).

Klum is married to British singer Seal and, as of June 2005, was expecting a child with him -- she has a daughter, Leni, with a boyfriend from a previous relationship. While she is best known for her beauty and perfect figure (one of her nicknames being "The Body"), the tall and willowy Klum remains surprisingly down-to-earth for a supermodel - a middle-class Westphalian girl from a small city - and has an endearingly goofy, engaging sense of humor. She is famously close to her father, Gunther.

It’s reported the models eat 5 small meals a day. They avoid processed food and usually stick to eating organic fruit and vegetables when possible. Their diet is high in protein so they keep their muscle and only lose fat.

But like all good diets these supermodels also incorporate lots of exercise to maintain their gorgeous figures. One of their favorite ways to keep fit; Boxing! Adriana Lima says she got bored of jogging and bike riding and turned to boxing, “It’s my favorite thing to do because it’s always exciting. It’s the best type of cardio that you can do. And you build up muscles without being too big.” Ms Miller also loves the punching bags but incorporates surfing into her exercise routine to tone up the legs and butt.

"A lot of people believe that because I’m curvy—and blonde—I’ve had a boob job or some other kind of plastic surgery, which isn’t true,” Miller, 30, says. “I’m 100 percent natural, but I have to work hard to stay in shape. There’s no magic pill. Believe me, if there was, I’d know about it.”

1. Get active, and the sooner the better. “You could say I’ve been going to the gym since before I was born,” says Miller. “I have a photo of my mom the day before she went into labor with me wearing her unitard and leg warmers—very eighties.” Her mother’s dedication to physical fitness, as well as both parents’ passion for surfing, have contributed to Marisa’s health mantra: “Working out is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.”

2. Never run on empty. “I usually have steel-cut oatmeal with sliced bananas in the morning, but if I want something fast, I whip up a protein shake,” Miller says. “I mix soy or almond milk, yogurt, a banana, and a scoop of protein powder with frozen organic fruit, like mangoes or blueberries. I don’t measure anything; I just throw it all in the blender. I also carry Gnu Flavor & Fiber bars with me in case I need to eat on the run.”

3. Give in to temptation. “I prefer healthy food and try not to bring too many treats into my house. But I don’t believe in depriving myself either,” says Miller. “When I go to the movies, I have a sugary soda, not a diet one. And if I want a burger, I’ll have a burger. 4. Be flexible with your workouts. “It’s not easy for me to stick to a set routine, but if I can do something almost every day, I don’t have to play catch-up before a big photo shoot,” Miller says. “I have a home gym and I take Spinning classes at my local health club. When I can, I box with a trainer, which helps me blast calories. If I’m going on the road, I bring resistance bands with me so I can strength-train anywhere. Every bit helps.”

5. Don’t eat like your guy. “My husband, Griffin, is tall and lean, so he can eat anything he wants,” says Marisa. “Some nights he’ll bring home french fries, and I have to resist them! I decide to say ‘no’ and then make something else, like a veggie burger. It’s not always an easy choice, but it’s a healthier one.”

Victoria’s Secret model Marisa Miller is already naturally gorgeous, and always has that beach girl-look about her, so she's the perfect person to ask about how to get that summer style. Plus, as the current cover girl of Shape magazine, we had to grill her about her secrets for getting into shape for the warm months ahead.

Hollyscoop caught up with Marisa at the W Hollywood’s stunningly seductive WET Pool, and she gave us the scoop on how to look and feel great this summer.

When asked what some of her beauty tips were, she told us, “I think one of the most important things is to work out. I mean obviously no one likes to work out, but it's really important to be toned and firmed. It's really important not to forget your skin either. Coming from winter, it's like we're all a little dry, and it's important to exfoliate and to use SPF.”

We whole-heartedly agree that being tan (as well as toned) is a summer must, but we Hollyscoopers know the sun’s harmful rays are not the way to get that glow! Luckily, Marisa clued us in on a great product that’ll give you a guilt-free bronze.

She told Hollyscoop, “I love this product by Victoria's Secret, Bare Bronze, because it has sunscreen and a self-tanner in it so it's great because you can really gradually build up your color transitioning from spring to summer and it hides a lot of imperfections....so it's really important not to forget about your skin when swimsuit season is coming up.”

We asked her if laying out in the sun was a big no-no for her, and Marisa said, “I used to. I've grown up at the beach my whole life, I surf, and the last 2 years because the self tanner is so great.... maybe 10 years ago the color wasn't so great, but I mean now this Bare Bronze product I use is awesome. That's what I use and I notice my skin looks better and it's really important to use SPF.”

Aside from exercise, Marisa is adamant about maintaining a healthy diet as well. Here’s one of her supermodel secrets: “One of the things that I do before I have a big shoot is, for breakfast I'll have a big smoothie. It's really simple to make and it's easy if you're on the go and you just have a couple minutes. I'll do organic blueberries, frozen berries, a banana, yogurt, and protein powder, and it fills you up but it's good because it's good to replace with a smoothie. It makes your skin pretty. It's a nice little slimming tip.”

With Marisa’s busy schedule of modeling, it’s hard to imagine she has any time left in the day! But we asked if she’s thinking about her future, and if she wants to be a mother some day.

Marisa told Hollyscoop, “Of course. Heidi Klum...I'm such a fan of her and how she balances everything so great and she has kids and such a great family life, so that's definitely something I aspire one day, but it's a little difficult when you model swimwear!”
